Description
Huskemetall - Explore the magical property!
Huskemetall is an exciting mixture of nickel and titanium, also known as ni-ti-nol. This thin metal has a unique ability: it can "remember" the shape it has had. With only warm water, you can explore this fascinating property. Start experimenting and watch it remember the shape you gave it!
The package contains 5 Nitinol metal wires of approx. 10 cm. Diameter: 1 mm - Change temperature: 45-50°C.
This is how you "program" the memory metal: Bend the metal wire into the desired shape. Heat bends and angles with a lighter or the flame of a candle. Allow the wire to cool.
If you now straighten the thread again, or bend it to a different shape, it will bounce back to its "programmed" shape when you expose it to water that holds 45-50°C
Note: This is not a toy, but an educational kit that demonstrates a science experiment.
Did you know that NASA uses nitinol? Among other things, they make ball bearings and valves from this special metal, both because of the metal's special properties and because it does not rust. Nasa has also made the tires for its Mars rovers from nitinol threads knitted together into stitches like in a knitted sweater.
